Main Works and appointment of Build Contractor

In April 2016 the Council started the process of tendering for the build contract and worked closely with the tendering companies on their approach to delivering the project on the town centre site. These discussions covered a wide range of things such as site constraints, control of noise and working practices, management of construction traffic, continued servicing of businesses remaining on site, and how to manage and minimise the length of the demolition phase which requires a temporary single lane closure of Peach Street due to the close proximity of the buildings to the highways.

In January 2017 Dawnus Construction Ltd started work to deliver the Peach Place proposals. In March 2019 Dawnus Construction Ltd went into administration and the council has put contingency plans into place.

Local contractor CTS has been appointed to keep work moving on site whilst the council investigated the situation in respect of the Dawnus' Sub-Contractor and Supplier's contracts. CTS has subsequently been appointed to complete the works and have been able to continue with many of the local companies who were working on the site for Dawnus.

This work includes the closure of the Rose Street car park, demolition of existing buildings on site, and development of new shops, homes and a public square.
