Further update on works in Wokingham Town Centre

Wednesday 15th August, 2018

If you've walked around Market Place in the last few days, you'll have seen how close we are to finishing the works. As of Sunday 19 August, you'll be able to move freely around Market Place and enjoy this new town centre open space. You may be aware of some final remedial works including drainage, cleaning and sealing, which will take place next week, but this is normal at the end of a construction project.

Denmark Street will reopen on Saturday 18 August. Balfour Beatty will hand over the site on 31 August and the Market Place scheme will be complete.

In order to complete the carriageway surface for Denmark Street (from the top of Peach Street / Broad Street) there will be a series of closures over three nights starting tonight (Wednesday 15 August). The closure will take place from 8pm to 5.30am.

We announced last month our intention to close the section of Broad Street between Costa and Rose Street to through traffic for up to four weeks. It had always been our intention to look at options to see if there was an alternative way for us to do this work without a further disruptive road closure in the town centre. And, we have been successful in achieving this. The section of Broad Street will now only close for a week from Sunday (19 August) until 25 August.

Broad Street will fully open before the end of the school holidays. However, there will continue to be a lane closure on Peach Street.

Diversion route - section of Broad Street between Costa and Rose Street

From Monday 20 August to Friday 24 August, the diversion route for all vehicles travelling towards Reading will be via Denmark Street, Wellington Road, Station Link Road. From Saturday 25 August the same diversion route applies to HGVs as they will not be able to drive along the newly opened Broad Street for approximately one month.
