HOW IT AFFECTS YOU
Town centres are central to our community. They offer a base for small businesses and jobs to grow and are often the hub for community life.
The Borough is set to grow with the addition of approximately 13,000 new homes over the next twelve years, with 4000 situated in Wokingham. This could mean welcoming 10,000 new residents to the town.
It is essential that we make sure we have a town centre that meets the needs of the new and existing population and ensures a sustainable and strengthened economic future for our town.
The proposals need to ensure the right spaces and facilities are available for Wokingham's growing population as well as support and strengthen our community.
We're looking to regenerate three specific areas in Wokingham town centre - Peach Place, Carnival Pool and Elms Field
We've been granted detailed planning consent for Peach Place, Carnival Phase 1 and Elms Field and are in the process of preparing a detailed proposals for Carnival Phase 2 for submission in 2017.
In November 2015 we also held a workshop to look at the town centre's public spaces including Market Place and Peach Place and feedback from this will be used to help shape the final detailed designs. In January 2016 we held a further sessions to look at materials for the Peach Place façades and guidance for new shop fronts.
